Spurs trade the following to LA Lakers:
75 Omri Casspi: $5,315,875 (2019-20); $5,714,565 (2020-21)
Rawle Alkins dead money contract: $763,035 (2019-20)
2021 POR 2nd round pick
Total outgoing salary: $6,078,910
Trade percentage (outgoing): 86%
Trade percentage (incoming): 114%
New total cap obligations (SAS) (2019-20): $148,509,946
FOR
77 Kent Bazemore $7,000,000 (2019-20)
Total outgoing salary: $7,000,000
Trade percentage (outgoing): 114%
Trade percentage (incoming): 86%
New total cap obligations (LAL) (2019-20): $97,077,066
Accepted by the Spurs. This trade came together quickly between Mark Price and I. With the loss of CJ Miles for likely the remainder of the season, and similar to the Ibaka trade made a week ago, we recognize we have a window now out West to make the playoffs and get some much needed experience for our young squad. This may seem like just an incremental upgrade from Casspi to Bazemore, but frankly next to SGA and Doncic we need another defender type, not a scorer, which Bazemore certainly is more of the former than the latter at this stage of his career. The 2021 2nd is the cost of passing on Casspi’s 2021 salary to the Lakers, which to us is an easy sacrifice.
As with other trades, we have been very conscientious of the 2020 offseason and having cap room. We are very excited to say, with this trade—and assuming the NBA central office projections of a $116 MM cap for 2020-2021 holds—we will have enough space to offer...drumroll please...TWO max contracts to ten year veteran types with the loaded 2020 OSFA class looming and now a 90+ rated Luka Doncic and 80+ rated SGA to dangle as running mates for any of the star types about to hit the market. There’s plenty of star pairing permutations for us to tire kick next offseason now with a projected $82 MM in cap room
