The SGs arent star studded but have more talent than the PGs of this Free Agent class.Hope enjoy reading this and feel free to leave your comments below. This article is a collab piece of Jerry West and myself.
1.Zach LaVine
LaVine has really stepped up his scoring this season with a massive 7 ppg difference from last season. He would definitely be a top 3 MIP candidate had he played enough games last year.Although he has been scoring well, his defence is horrible and he has been putting up stats in the NBA on the tanking Bulls. However I believe he is one of the top 5 Free Agents available given his age and his scoring. The D5 Cavs should try to sign him back as they don’t seem to be in a position to attract stars .Hence they should try to re sign him and hope that he continues his ascent.
2.Malcolm Brogdon
The former rookie of the year will be one of the most interesting Free Agents this year. And with the 76’rs making moves to get cap space maybe he fits their timeline better than I thought. At 26 years of age this contract will run through his prime, so he will expect a big contract after averaging nearly 16 points per game and joining the 50-40-90 club. That’s some elite company to be in.
He is one of the most underrated players in the NBA and his per 36 numbers are All-Star level. I would expect the 76’rs to keep him and try to add more All-star level players to play alongside him.
3.Gary Harris
Harris has had a down year with a 6% FG% and 3 pt% drop. However he is still a good perimeter defender and an essential part of the Nuggets perimeter defence.Even after his down year he will get paid well in D5 due to the weak FA class. The D5 Thunder should re-sign Harris as he is their highest rated backcourt player and replacing him via FA will be tough for them
.
4.Marcus Smart
Marcus Smart is hard a player to put the correct value on. He reminds of a prime Avery Bradley, specially since moving to the SG spot just like Bradley did. Anyway, he has been a solid contributor for the Grizzlies, and with them being currently a top 5 team in D5, I would expect them to keep one of their most valuable players, specially since Smart doesn’t need to score on this team playing alongside Jokic, KAT and Mitchell.
5.JJ Redick
The 34 year old veteran is an absolute sniper from distance which fits extremely well in this era of floor spacing. In the NBA ,he provides valuable floor spacing to the 76ers who boast of arguably the second best starting lineup in the NBA.D5 Memphis should resign JJ as he will thrive from the attention given to their elite frontcourt duo and splash threes. His weak defence can also be covered by Smart who is one of the best guard defenders in the league.
6.Tyreke Evans
Another Memphis player hitting the market, Tyreke Evans had a down year after looking really promising last year. This is probably the type of player you want to avoid overpaying if you want to contend.
The Wolves would be an interesting team to give him a shot with the MLE.
7.Kyle Korver
Korver is a sniper from downtown which has allowed him to be productive even at this age.His defence might not be great but his spacing makes him a good role player. In D5, Korver is part of a roster which is filled with great 3 point shooters in Steph,Klay,Joe Harris and Korver himself.I don’t see any reason for Korver to leave GSW as he gets great looks as GSW as two great playmakers in LeBron and Steph and he has thrived playing alongside LeBron in real life.
8.Allen Crabbe
Allen Crabbe is a 3-point specialist would fit well on a contending team. But since he is still at the young age of 26 and entering his prime, I would look for him to seek the big contract of his career on a team who is on the rising. Maybe he could join Trae Young in the Pelicans and be one of the deadliest shooting backcourts in the league.
9.Alex Abrines
Abrines was cut from the OKC roster this season as he had some personal problems but he should be back for next season. He hadn’t performed that well this season but he is still 25 so a team might pick him up.If D5 Philly cant get major players with their cap space they can get take a shot on Abrines by giving him a low contract as he wont generate a lot of interest.
10.Justin Holiday
Nothing against Justin Holiday but this is a showing of how weak this year class is for guards. At the age of 30 I wouldn’t expect much out of him, but he can still provide solid minutes of the bench for any team with some good defense.
A team like the Bulls might give him a shot at the right price.
